New "doors" tour

There is an interesting article in the NYTimes today that reports the famous Ghiberti doors from the Baptistry in Florence will be on tour in America (after a lengthy restoration process) with stops in Atlanta, Chicago, and the Met in NYC.

Coincedently, I just finished reading about their fabrication and creation in "The House of Medici: It's Rise and Fall." Ghiberti and Brunelleschi (B was responsible for the magnificent dome over Santa Maria del Fiori, which in turn inspired Michelangelo's creation for St Peter's in Rome) were apparently fierce rivals over the commission for the Baptistry doors. It's a very interesting story. Hopefully I'll remember to get up to NYC when they are there next October. The last time I was at the Met was for another famous Florentine artist's exhibition: Fra Angelico.
