The Ponte Vecchio - as seen from the Uffizi
This morning, as I was getting ready to leave for work, I noticed that evil lil' miss Katie Couric was in MY city - Florence, Italy. She was reporting from the Ponte Vecchio, and generally giving a bad name to Americans everywhere by showcasing a whole bunch of college students studying in Florence - all of whom were naturally screaming and hooting.
It reminded me of the time I was in Rome when I was studying abroad - a group of us at the Vatican one Wednesday morning to see the Pope. He was amazing in that he spoke a variety of languages to greet the individual groups that were there that day. When he called every other group's name, they would stand up and clap. When he called out a group from Ohio, they got up and screamed and hooted and did the Arsenio Hall "woof, woof, woof" complete with arm action. Our group was four Americans and one Italian, and we Americans just hung our heads in shame at the obnoxious display.
Ugh. Get out of my city Katie!
